A slightly different take on something others have already said, but I bought a fake buff in a newsagents a few weeks ago and it came with C+ for free.

Even then, I felt C+ wasn't worth the nothing that I paid for it.

It gets a bit wearying seeing them giving top honours to the stupidly expensive kit that gets reviewed. Rapha & Assos must be bunging them a LOT of nice freebies.

It seems to be aimed at the wealthy, ultra-competitive / serious cyclists these days - not for the ride-for-pleasure & commuting cyclist like me.

Must remember & bring the sheet with the tel no. etc on it to work so I can cancel. It's a PITA that you can't just quickly cancel online with your membership number.

Funny, I was just clearing out my old copies of C+ (I tear out and keep the odd product review/ride/fitness article) and thinking why do I bother subscribing still when I saw this thread . The answer is just inertia. For me the final nail has been that fatuous list of bikes every month a la What-HiFi.

I buy Cycling Weakly from the newsagent every now and again and I reckon it's improved quite a lot lately, but I dont think I'd want it every week.

I used to get MBUK ages ago and have got single track and other bike magazines, only getting road cycling magazines once or twice

I've not bothered for a few years, partly based on the cost (poor student that I was) but mainly on the fact that I wasn't reading them except for the one A4 page in MBUK that was the 'Mint Sauce' cartoon.

Ex C+ reader here too. Haven't bought one in ages - and staring at the covers in Smiths every time I go in just doesn't seem to inspire me to part with the reddies.

Maybe it's not just cycling mags though? I'm getting the same about computer mags. Used to buy one or two a month and enjoy reading them from cover to cover, but nowadays if I buy one a year it's about right - usually some linux mag or other with a decent coverdisk that saves me downloading half a dozen of the latest distros.

The ctc magazine has more reading in it. I think the obituaries are fascinating. I hope I keep pedalling as long as some of them that have passed.
Edit for lol typo...

When I mentioned the buff, I was talking about last year... hadn't realised there was one going free now. So I went to Smith's yesterday, and couldn't find it. BUT... I found 'Fast Bike' motorbike magazine, for 4.50, which has a wonderfully fleecy 'neck tube' on the cover. The mag went straight in the recycling, I'm afraid, but the buff/tube is fab!

I'm going to put my head above the parapet here - I quite like C+, it's not complete rubbish, I've read worse. I took out a sub and got a free pair of DHB shorts, that I was going to buy anyway, which would have cost about the same. And I got a buff too.

I've found the same with Cycle Active, after only a year. In fairness, it's aimed more at the newbie than at me, and I have enjoyed reading some of the health and diet related articles but I shan't be renewing. I did win letter of the month once though so I can't really grumble!

I quite like Cycle Active. I don't really consider myself a newbie but I find that CA concentrates more on affordable kit than some other magazines.

I've only got C+ a couple of time (yup free buff!) and I did subscribe to Cycle Sport for a couple of years but I found that outside of the Grand Tours I wasn't really reading that much of it. Plus Shop Window was just getting ridiculous, bottle cages at £100 a go

I used to get C+ on a regular basis out here but then my supply line stopped and so I didn't read one for several years. However earlier this year I found a magazine shop Hong Kong that was selling them and so I've started to get them again more regularly. It has changed from the 'old days' but I still enjoy reading it and find that it still has some good articles each month. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought Cycle Active this morning as it had reviews touring bikes and cyclocross bikes. I have to say, the cover looks very similar to Cycling Plus, even to the spot of red in the title. I wonder if it's a sort of spoiler magazine set up by another publisher to take away some business from a rival. It's not a bad mag, but not as good as Cycling Plus was IMO.

Brought in my Cycling Plus cover sheet with my membership number on it today so that I could phone up and cancel (since there's no option to cancel on the website). Then I realise there's no mention of the phone number on the sheet, so I have to log in to the myfavouritemagazines website to track down a number. Oh dear - no number to call for cancellations, and lots of numbers to choose from. Pick one of the more common numbers and call that. I get through, only to be told that they don't cancel over the phone and all cancellations have to be in writing. Luckily, emails now count as 'in writing' so I obtained an email address and duly sent off an email asking to cancel. I've had an automated acknowledgement back - wonder how long it'll take them to actually cancel my subscription?

They really want to make it a less than straightforward process, don't they?!

The last time I bought Cycling Plus was when they did a feature on the Peugeot PY ( the bespoke PX ) on the twenty fifth anniversary of Tom Simpson's death.

Or was that Cycling Weekly?
