Yale cable lock with built-in 110dB alarm if cable cut or lock tampered with.
12 mm cable x 1500 mm long £19.99

Can't decide if the alarm adds any level of deterrent to an otherwise basic lock.

Obviously not in the same class as a £60-£100 Kryptonite or Abus D-lock, but possibly just sufficiently unusual to send the scrotes elsewhere?

The thing is, no one will intervene if they see someone nicking a bike, so I can't see an alarm going off will make anyone behave any differently to stop a thief cycling away

Maybe, I'd heard that you can muffle them with a jacket or something, depends where it is on the bike?
Might be useful if you are near by, but out of sight and could hear it to take a quick look.

I would prefer an alarm that's firmly bolted to the bike and very loud, if its part of the lock they can chuck it over the hedge and ride of, if the locks bolted to the bike they are going to have to ride of whilst getting deafened, makes it a bit more unpleasant for them. There was a thread on here that mentioned an alarm, I looked at it but wasn't keen and I don't have the link any more.
