Calf Tightness

As a newby to (road) cycling I have experienced calf tightness/cramp during rides. I also kitesurf and run which I suspect may not be necessarily complementary to the muscle area, but could there be any other causes - or is it just part of the bedding in process?

Hi ohneill,i think cycling tends to put a bit of pressure on your calfs as you hold yourself when not pedalling so some of your body weight is off the saddle,this takes a little time to get used to,and it sometimes burns abit in the calfs at first,a week or two should sort it and you will be more used to the extra work your calfs are doing.
 
I run in the gym and cycle (outdoors, obviously) on a weekly basis. I sometimes find i have a problem with tight calves and so spend a lot of time stretching. It seems to help, but the main thing I find helps is to take a break from running for a couple of weeks.
