Cameras - Forward Facing, Rearward Facing, or Helmet Mounted?

go for Oregon scientifica camera and get front AND back cameras in one device & simultaneous play backs

Hell no. Those are some of the worst cameras on the market. Some fairly decent cheap goPro look a likes on the market that are worth the money you pay for them. Oregon Scientific have been crap for a long long time!

regardless of the Schumaker thing. I went off the idea of mounting a camera to my helmet about 3 years ago, it seemed counter-intuitive. Then I moved it to the bars, ...then gave up altogether and have never had cause to miss it.

I though about flogging mine but use it occasionally to film holidays and underwater stuff.

Haven't filmed a ride in years, in fact according to my last youtube clip, it was 2 years ago. If I want to film something memorable now, I whip out the camera on my phone but even that is only on very special occasions and under pretty defined circumstances

Regarding Schuy. The camera makers have come back and said that the mounts are specifically designed to break on impact to avoid these kind of things (this is the reason it is worth spending money on these things if you are attaching them to a helmet!!! )

His impact, from what we know, was very extreme and comparing it to cycling is a bit drastic.

Whilst I take the point about quality mounts iI have to say I heard the opposite about the schuy crash, I read someplace (probably a really reliable source like facebook!) that it was a low impact fall at very low speed but that was combined with a very specific set of circumstances...not sure what these were and can only speculate it was rock related.

I have to disagree totally with you Gaz.

My Oregon scientific camera is the only one that does what I want, namely to provide evidence of both behind and in front of me when riding. Far more useful than a camera that can only capture what happens in front of you.

I want a camera to provide evidence of who was to blame in an accident. To prove that I do not need some fancy and expensive super HD camera, but I do want a camera that captures what happens before and after the incident

I saw one on kickstarter a few years back, don't think it got funded though.
If they fixed their mounting system then it's not a bad implementation and a neat idea.

The important things are how much you got it for and how much your time is worth, it's a nice device for simple recording every angle. The RRP looks around £75ish. you could have got two decent go pro copies for a little bit more. But then you have the pain of having two separate recordings, charging two devices etc...

Re ATC Chameleon - I have had no problem with the mounting system. The 2 lenses can be adjusted, one up/ done (front) - the rear one side to side. Once happy with position, just tighten clamp, and after that its easy to remove / attach camera and have it in right position.

I paid £49 for mine and am amazed no one else has made a dual lens camera. Its the best safety idea going for cycling cameras - shame someone else hasn't made a version as this would drive up quality of such cameras
