Campag v Shimano...

I have the choice of a Shimano Tiagra groupset or a Campag Xenon/Veloce.

Any dispassionate opinion or advice gratefully received!

whats the compatibility issues. if you bust a sprocket can you interchange cassettes, campag have different hubs don't they

Shimano for me, purely because more shops sell it so will be easier to gets bits n bobs.

Excellent stuff on both counts - I have a preference for the Ultra Torque system which is better than Hollowtech (IMHO) but requiring a bit more in the way of tools/time for maintainance.

I have both.

I prefer my Campag Veloce over my Shimano Tiaga.

This preference is irrational.

I also prefer the noise my campag and ambrosio hubs make over my Shimano hubs.

This preference is not irrational.

I have Centaur and Ultegra. I prefer Centaur. I was servicing the Centaur bike last week, and tried to work out when I last had to adjust the indexing. I worked out over 3000 miles back. Ultegra on the other hand seems to need adjustments all the time. Mind you the Ultegra bikes get ridden off road, Centaur does not.

Which one will please you more?

I'd stick with whatever you already have. Otherwise you inevitably end up hammering a Campag cassette onto a Shimano hub (or some such) and it'll take ages to realise why it...just...won't...fit!!

Campag here, but if you have the wheels nothing wrong with shimano, the wife got 105 on hers, shifts really nice.

You can get cassettes with Shimano splines and Campag spacing

I have to say that I prefer the way my Campag equipment works on the commuter over the Shimano on my 'good' bike.
