Barnet,
In a few years time when I can retire from work, hopefully a bit early, I intend to buy one and travel around Europe with my bike and MrsP following the cycling grand tours. This is the sort of thing, they are not cheap though!

i would get a modern one next time.i remember taking my old VW over to Belgium to watch Tour of Flanders & Paris Roubaix in 1987,sleeping in a VW camper in April is not a nice experience!!!!from what ive seen id need to spend £15K upwards for a nice 4 birth

Can't get camper Vans than these! I thought it was 'rite of passage' stuff for Aussies and Kiwis doing the Europe tour, and they would often be 'for sale' on Battersea Bridge on Sundays... somewhere like that anyway. Go for it - get one! Peace man.

If you like campervans(old type) and have some spare cash.....DONT google danbury motors!

A friend had a VW transporter converted last year by a firm in Farnworth(West Manchester) it is superb but expensive for what it is and would be cramped with kids in an inclement UK.

We go camping in France and metup with someone who had a Danbury VW, SUPERB!!!!!
I had a good look around it, and if I had the money I'd get one(take care of it and pass it onto my grandkids), utter awesomeness !!!

We've had a couple, a bigger motorhome type thing which was comfortable to live in but horrible to drive or to try and squeeze down country lanes. We swapped to a Mercedes based van conversion which was beautiful to drive and still liveable in, except when the dog got bigger but now we have none and have returned to camping.

If you buy one, you have to use it, especially an expensive one. If it's for occasional use a Bongo or similiar and a tent is a perfect combo, though when you get to four of you using it, you may need a trailer as well, not much storage.
