... effin brilliant?
Just back to Abingdon after a thoroughly brilliant evening at the Olympic stadium. Getting there ws pretty OK once I'd managed to get to the Coach into London. The organisers had given us free rail passes, we got to Hillingdon and tube'd to Liverpool street where some lovely 'lympic helpers put us on a fast train to Stratford. Peachy!
Short queues to get into the park manned by friendly staff, quick shop, McD's wander and into the stadium. The atmosphere was awesome, the venue is great, everything well organised, good commentry, great programme and everyone in high spirits and good behaviour. Every seat filled. Tomorrow at the Athletics they will see their 1 millionth spectator ... that's the Brits art their best, turning-up and supporting, well everybody..
We left at the end of the program around 2300 and we were back home at 1.45. Not all bad.
What an experience, great Kharma, good organisation. Whilst we can pick holes in it, it's one hell of an experience and the cost of tickets for me and the daughter, £40. Fab.
Great Britain? Yep, we sometimes we are. Sometimes I truly believe we're the best nation on the planet.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

I was also there last night and I lucked out with the (£45) tickets as I was 12 rows from the front and got to admire Oscar in all his beautiful glory. The atmosphere was amazing and I'll be really sad when it all finishes which is funny given that I was the biggest grump about it back on the 23rd July. Don't know about anyone else but when you watch the athletes you don't think "aww bless, look at the disabled people", you think "holy f*uck look at them go!". The blind Brazilian girl who got the gold medal was hilarious and I loved her eyemask with the sparkles and the dancing on the podium with the guide.

We cycled up to the stadium last night and the velodrome on Sunday and while the bike parking facilities were great and the staff helpful and friendly, the signposting and information on the website was crap and meant that I missed the first hour of the events last night. That's my only complaint.

My sister is there today. I'd have been happier going to see these games than the regular ones TBH

There's quotes from the athletes before and after advert breaks on C4, one of the ones from the equestrian is quite funny "aaww, look that disabled person's wearing jodhpurs, and then I normally beat them."

I love that one.

To be fair, I don't think that anyone using the word 'brave' would do it with the slightest intention of being condescending. Is 'courageous' a 'better' word? To most, they are interchangeable. It does take courage, and determination, to push yourself to such a level. I think if I were in that position, I'd be less bothered about someone calling me brave, and more bothered about what they, and society in general, did to make my life easier. Unless they called me brave while talking to me like I was a baby, but that's a question of tone, not words!

Lovely weather too  Didn't see you there though!

And I was looking out for you as well, would have bought you a pint!

I thought that was quite funny when the compere asked for silence at the start of one of the races, just as the javelin thrower
was taking his run with a loud roar.

See you in Rio!

After volunteering full-time throughout the Olympics and Paralympics, my sister finally gets to see some events! She watched the 200m final the other day and also watched some Goalball. Yay!

The volunteers also get bronze, silver and gold pin badges depending on how long they volunteer for!!!

That was funny! And the Mexican wave. But there again, when silence was asked for in the 4x100 blind relay, you could have heard a fish fart. Excellent, the sound of 80,000+ people trying not to make a sound.
So glad to see Peacock beat Pistorious to the 100m Gold. What a night tonight would have been!
I'm still high as a kite on the whole event.
