Can you be a cat person *and* a dog person?

Are you a dog person, a cat person, or both?

It's often said that people are either cat people or dog people. Even my wife insists that I am a cat person, tho' I'm clearly besotted with our hound.

It's true, I like cats. I appreciate their elegance, their self-possession, their dignity. But I also love dogs for their boundless energy, enthusiasm and slobbery friendliness.

Can't you like both?

Barnet,
MrsP and me have two burmese cats, we have had burmese for over 30 years. My last dog, a lab cross, all purpose dog was put to sleep just before last christmas, he was the third dog we had had in the last 30 years. I am now looking for another dog. So we are both Dog and Cat people.

Grew up totally a dog person, until I had kids and started to go off them a bit what with the amount of shoot in parks, on pavements and uncontrolled dogs being allowed to lick my kids in their pushchairs/bound over to them and knock them over.

Was always slightly allergic to cats, but discovered that the allergy had gone (think it was linked to my childhood asthama) - and dogs grew on me again.

Finally got a cat at the start of this year - would have loved a dog too - but I knew the kids wouldn't be imressed being dragged out every day come rain or shine to walk it.

(btw cats don't crap on the lawn...........that's usually foxes - cats DO shoot in peoples gardens (if they don't use the litter tray as mine usuall does) - but in the loose earth/stones as they like to bury it)

Come and tell that to the cats round here! I can tell the difference between catshit and foxshit you know

impressive - as they are often very similar...particularly urban foxes and cats (as they usually raid the same bins and rubbish spots!). The biggest teller is how long th smell lingers when you clean it up - if it's a cat - youll clean it up and then the smell will be gone............fox poo smell lasts for hours <<<<vomit>>>>

of course if you live in the country there are all manner of creatures that could be taking a shoot in your garden (alongside the mice/rats/birds that'll be doing it more discretely

(I realise this is a debate in which people will never agree)

I've lived in the country almost all my life - but I bow to your superior shoot knowledge of course ;)

*** disclaimer - I am not obsessed with poo - but I have 3 boys........(not sure I need to say more) who are fascinated by the stuff we find while out on walks <<<<blurgh>>>>

You are Gillian McKeith and I claim my £5.

I'm a cat person but I do like dogs.

hell no - I have bowed to pressure to attempt to identify animal poo out of the house..............I shoved cotton wool in my ears while they were busying weighing themselves, shitting on the toilet, discussing what the shoot looked like and then weighing themselves again

Boys truly are disgusting creatures (though I do love my 3 dearly - they're still disgusting creatures

I love both for their different characteristics. Have had either or in the past - but never both at the same time.

Currently have one young cat, Tigs - 2 years old, having lost (as in died) her litter sister in march this year.

I live in an area where we have open plan front gardens and the dogs poo on my front lawn -

Dogs every time for me I'm afraid. My dogs never went into other people's gardens and cr*pped indiscrimately and stinkingly all over their lawn, and they never jumped up on the kitchen worktops and ambled around, through and over the food being prepared there either. A friend once created a truly superb ruby wedding cake for her parents, only to go into the kitchen to fetch it and find her cat SITTING ON TOP OF IT eating the icing-sugar roses. How the cat survived I'll never know.

Sorry, I'm prejudiced!

Amen to that, love dogs and cannot stand cats....
