Close to my house is a residential area called Royal Circus. It is a big roundabout with a house in the middle. At the end of every road leading onto it is a one way sign.

This morning I cycled up to what I thought was a man fixing a car in the middle of the road. When I got closer I realised that it was the rider of the scooter that was now completely underneath and crushed by a 4 x 4. Luckily the guy on teh bike seemed to be ok and as I had not witnessed the actual accident, the police sent me away when they arrived.

However, it was clear that the 4 x 4 was going the wrong way around the roundabout at his own estimate "about 35 mph" (so 15mph over the speed limit) and said that he "hadn't realised it was one way".

I don't know how much clearer they could make it, what with the profusion on one way signs and the fact IT'S A ROUNDABOUT.

The mind boggles.

I've said it before...................given that most people can't even walk down the steet without bumping into things, standing in doorways, getting in the way etc. etc., it's no wonder they can't manage to aim a motor vehicle properly. And as for supermarket trolleys............................

Assuming the signs were clear, that strikes me as a dangerous mistake to make and imo the driver shouldn't be allowed on the road until they have demonstrated sufficient competence to be able to drive a motor vehicle.

If someone needs a sign so that they go the correct way around a RAB, then I think they already lost the 'demonstrating sufficient competence' test.

Hmmm. Last bank holiday I was cycling through Stratford one way system to see a van go on the wrong side of the road and proceed to drive the wrong way round the gyratory. Luckily there were very few cars around - I suspect the result would have been more serious had it been a normal weekday with the usual jostling traffic speeding significantly above the 30mph limit. Anyway, to prove it happened, here is the vid!

Once, rather than wait for me to pass a pinch point on the entry to a RAB, the following car took the right hand side of the bollards and the RAB to save 20 seconds (if that) at 6.15am.
Unless the driver is recently from foreign shores, going the wrong way around a RAB is not a mistake, it is stupidity.

I was once turning right off the M11 at this junction (M11 exit slip road to the right with no entry signs) only to be greeted with the front of another car horn blaring & arm signals to indicate I should move over to let him past. The driver had ignored no right turn signs on the traffic lights & no-entry signs, like WTF?

That was similar to that lorry that came at me a few years back going the wrong way up a one way street.

Stratford is the academy of crap driving anyway.

One of my all-time favourite hitchhikes was a lift from a US serviceman new to the UK. He picked us up in deepest Kent and drove us to central London. By the time we fell out onto the pavement, he'd just about grasped the concept of driving on the left, but one-way systems and roundabouts remained a mystery. Great guy... hope he survived. ^_^
