I'll be back on my bike on Monday too. Since finishing the car's engine rebuild I've been driving to work, but the cooling fan disintegrated this morning and it'll be the middle of the week before I can get another one. The joys of classic car ownership ... I've done more cycling since getting an "enthusiast" car than I've done in the last year.

Would it matter as it's still like the Arctic at the moment? No chance of over heating in this weather.

It matters very much with an air cooled engine. And the fan drives the alternator, so even if I got away without overheating I'd splutter to an undignified halt when the battery went flat. I don't mind, it'll do me good to bike it for a few days ... it might even become a habit.

I've been on duty for the last 9 days, so have to drive to work.

I can't wait for Monday to get back on the bike. I think the lighter days have made it worse.

Might be trying a new route from Snow Hill to Redditch on Monday down the canal and through Kings Norton / Icknield St, so if i see someobody with a big grin coming the other way i'll give you a wave.

Went for a cycle with the kids yesterday and today and it was flippin' freezing on both occasions. Tomorrow's going to be cold too I think but at least when I'm cycling on my own I can go nice and fast to warm up a bit.

It's worth it just to see the canal diversion they've done in Selly Oak so that they can build the new bridge.

What time will you be out?

Leave Snow Hill just after 7, so anyone's guess what time i make it to Redditch.

Well i got out of Snow Hill at quarter past seven, in the office at 8:30, but at 16 miles plus the 4 to the station at the other end i won't be doing it too often.

Lovely ride though, saw more cyclists headed in to town than i would in a week on my normal route.

Well, coming the other way I passed a bloke on a mountain bike, and one on a hybrid who waited for me to get through the tunnel. Either of them you? I would have asked them if they were upside down, but the canal looked pretty cold and I didn't fancy going in there.

No not me, i was on a road bike, a bit bouncy in places, would probably go for a hybrid if i did it often.
