I have just changed insurance companies, which is something I do on a regular basis to find the most competitive quote.

Normally a new insurance company will ask me for 'proof of no claims entitlement'. But this time they are asking for:

Proof of no claims

Copies of driving license for all persons (wife and I) who will drive

And a copy of my V5 (reg doc)

I have been driving for over 32 years and have never been asked for all the items above.
Have any of you guys had similar requests?

Only ever been asked for proof of no claims myself, which insurance company is asking for the docs?

No, never been asked. Again, I shop round each year and both my wife and I have made significant savings this year. I hate paying lots for insurance as I hardly use my car.

This is becoming common, thing is all the information is available to insurers electronically so I am bewildered why they should need hard copies.

The other thing to remember is the new company knows of our history, even a reported but not claimed incident can raise the premium and non disclosure can invalidate insurance.

Have also been asked for all the above documents.
When I asked the company why they need the licence and the V5, I was told that the licence was to prove that I only had the points on my licence that I had told them about and the V5 was due to the large number of V5 stolen (over 120,000) so to prove that I had a "new style" of V5 and the car was not stolen

I'd be very hesitent to supply it. Ask them what their data protection policy is, and who will have access to the information.

So it seems that it is becoming the norm to ask for these documents.

As screenman said, certain information is already available to insurers. They had already asked me for details of my pervious policy, I had assumed that they would be checking details with Esure!

Anyway thanks for the replies, I will be in touch with them this morning. Just wanted a little background on what was happening to others first. Cheers guys

Personally I'm surprised at you not being asked for copies of driving licences before. I was first asked for copies of licences about 15 years ago.

The V5 thing I can understand as the DVLA had a large and embarrassing theft of blank log books about 5 years ago and they're only just managing to rectify it now.

im a little tea pot
the only time i have been aksed for docs was when the car was a total loss! i did renew with churchill for 5 years through the staff scheme but they want silly money this year since i left for a rival!!!

a well known, exclusive insurer will give me more cover for much less money!!! (about £300 ish)

I spoke to them on the phone this morning (Hastings Direct). Apparently they select at random a number of policy holders, and ask them to provide the required information. All fully protected by data protection.
