A simple question, or so I thought.
I want to upgrade my bars to some lovely carbon but I also would like some clip-on tri bars and there's many differing views on whether I can or can't.
According to my research into this some carbon bars will take them and some won't but speaking to a bloke in my LBS no carbon bars will take clip-ons. I am confused to the point of frustration and I would like a wider base of opinion please.

Some carbon bars do take clip ons.
It is best to check whether the bars are compatible for clip ons before purchasing.
If you find some bars that you like and it doesn't state whether they are compatible, a simple phone call should clear things up.
Is there a particular reason for wanting carbon bars?
If it's a matter of aesthetics and not a reduction in weight , I would be inclined to stay with alloy bars.
I should imagine that carbon bars that take clip ons are not much lighter than alloy bars anyway, although I'm not sure.

I would be very careful. I would also recommend caution if you get high end alloy bars too as these can be quite 'thin' - You'll bend/dent alloy bars, rather than fracture carbon.

Some alloy bars are better performing than carbon bars - take Ritchey WCS Alloy vs the Carbon model - similar weight, but the alloy is much stiffer, and much lower cost !
