Which one have you tried? All bikes ride and feel different.
I tried a Trek and a Specialized. Both same size but couldn't get on with the Trek.

For the amount of money you are spending it's best that you try a few test rides.
You don't want to get a bike and down the line realise that the bike is not what you want or expect.

I've got a defy one and is great for me, I and no one else on here can tell you if its a good bike for you. We can only tell you if its a good bike on paper not if its a good bike for your fit , intended use and riding style.

At that budget I'd go for a Boardman (10% discount with British Cycling membership), or Canyon Roadlite AL.

The Canyon is Aluminium, but pretty much the best racing bike you will get for your money for the price, also check out Rose bikes. Those two are unbeatable.

FYI I have ridden steel, aluminium and carbon bikes, I now use an aluminium Rose to race and it is as combfy and lighter/stiffer than my old carbon frames - you'd have to spend a hell of a lot of money on a carbon frame to beat it

Just make sure you talk in depth with Canyon about sizing given you have already bought a frame that is the wrong size - get it wrong when buying from Germany, could be a lot of aggro and cost to get the right one. personally, I'd buy from a UK based retailer unless I was very sure the bike was right (there's nowhere in the UK to sit on a Canyon unless you can find a friendly owner who's happy for you to get your leg over theirs)
