......seems to be bucking the trend of Cervelo Test team and underperforming so far this year. Perhaps he's keeping his powder dry?

Remember the start of the Tour last year when everyone was picking their favourites?

"Sastre has shown nothing this year."

It is what he does. Keeping his powder dry is it - his form will be good when he wants it.

It is interesting that in 2006 Sastre rode the entire Giro d'Italia in support of Ivan Basso (who "won") and finished 43rd, then rode the Tour and finished 4th (3rd after Landis' disqualification) and then rode the Vuelta and finished 4th (behind Vinokourov, Valverde and Kashechkin). The guy can do season-long performances, but after last year's success he probably thinks he has found his right schedule.

I think Sastre was ill at Tour of Cali, am not aware of his form in the current Spanish stage race...is this only his second outing of the year? I think TDF winners don't feel much pressure in March...come to think of it...would you ever when you've won just won TDF?

Quietly ticking over not drawing attention to himself worked well last year and hopefully will work the same way this year.
