carrera subway gearing

Bit the bullet today and bought the tools to get the free wheel off so i could service the bearings on the back wheel and i noticed that my 7 speed cassette is really a 6 speed with on extra cog on the "highest" gear.

I know i have seen a lot about people saying they think the subway is a bit under geared so if you really wanted you could swap the cog for one with less teeth (its currently a 12 tooth )

Ah that's interesting...although my gear hub is the 8 speed and 8th seems nice and tall. Well, it goes quick enough for me!

How was the stripdown and rebuild in terms of difficulty?

Also, do you have any idea which gear is direct? I'm thinking 5th feels like it's direct, on the 8 speed at least.

There's no direct gear on the nexus hub, but 5 is the 1:1 gear on the 8 speed.
