Fnaar? Fnaar, fnaar, fnaar.

I'm still really thinking about it all

Most likely I will still be thinking about for a good few years yet.

I like thinking, me.

Fair enough, didn't mean to offend... as I said, each to their own, and my 'own' is atheism. Should have said "when I made my mind up what made sense to me"

Not one jot or tittle of offence taken, just some amusement....

Just wondering what reaction people get who are Catholics and go and get their ashes anywhere other than the West of Scotland??
Can't say I've ever noticed any reactions, but maybe I'm just not looking hard enough - promise to be a bit more alert next year!

As a child of Catholic Northern Irish extraction growing up in a Glasgow housing scheme I wore ashes on Ash Wednesday and shamrock on Saint Patrick's day. Most people showed no overt reaction, but the sheer vitriol that came from a small minority (children and adults) was horrifying.

Bit like this place in certain ways...

Joe Biden (US VP) wore ash on Wednesday.
A news reporter said on air while handing over to a colleague 'Say , Joe Biden looks like he's got a nasty bruise on his forehead I wonder how he got that' or something along those lines.
Was she embarrassed when somebody explained the mark to her.

Bigotry is a total lack of understanding of anothers point of view usually mirroring that of their parents who suffer the same impediment. In this part of the world some Protestants hate Catholics because they are Catholics and vice versa. They cant explain it but they follow the view of their parents. A friend of mine,a Protestant, was told by a relative who is a member of the Orange Order(a religious based organisation) that if he dated a Catholic girl he would be disowned. He was forced to join the Orange Order against his will but eventually stuck two fingers up to them all. Thank god all my friends on both sides are considerably more enlightened and brush this bigotry aside with the disdain it deserves.
