Following on from the last thread which many might not even be reading anymore i have decided to start another one

I need somebody from the west to suggest a route around 40-60 miles in length in a loop so we can all get back to where we started  Not overly hilly but not flat either and hopefully this should get us the biggest turnout possible, ill most likely be driving through from Dunfermline (or getting the train) if people are needing a lift etc im prepared to take a few ;)

Proposed date is Saturday 23rd June but im open to suggestions on this.

So who's up for a ride on our great west coast?

I'm up for a West Coast trip but can't make 23rd June

Arran was mentioned a couple of times in the other thread.

It's doable in a day trip from the east, with earliest Glasgow rail connections to the ferry crossing (£10.75/return) which leaves Ardrossan at 0945. The last ferry leaves Brodick at 1920 which would also make a connection back to Edinburgh I reckon. Saying that, I would probably drive though, park in Ardrossan and aim to return on the 1640 ferry.

I've plotted a 71mi route which covers the String Road in both directions (pinched from Sleekitcollie ;))
It could be shortened of course - miss out the String Road altogether and do a shorter circular route - probs 55 miles at a guess...

I'm planning on doing it sometime soon - but it will probably be a short-notice trip. I'll post on here when I know it's happening. But I don't mind doing it more than once especially if it's for a forum meet ;)

Hi Col, at the moment that day is free - just need to work out work on-call, etc. Not too bothered about route as I've not done anything through that way, though not too long (50-60 miles) would be preferrable. I have a bike carrier and could fit a couple of bikes with front wheels off in boot. Arran looks good if we can work out timings etc but not too fussed whatever happens.

Keep me updated! Regards, Mark

Good initiative, Col!

Very busy week at work - I'll come up with some alternative route suggestions this weekend.

Perfectly doable, I did similar a few years back with ArranAndy and a few others from the C+ forum, missed the 3pm ferry by seconds (it was there but they were about to close the gates and wouldn't let me on :-( ) and had to wait 3 hours for the next one but the weather was fab that day :sun: I'd love to join folks for another spin round the island but logistics will rule me out at the moment.

Realistically I will struggle to commit to any date as it's a challenge juggling family and work but if I can make it along for a forum ride I will

Can't make that date I'm afraid  but hope it's a success and the East Coasters get to enjoy our beautiful West Coast :P

I suspect I won't be able to come along
My nearest & dearest fell off his bike, I braked too fast, worrying about him, and came off, too.
He got away with bruises :B) (and ripped his CC jersey - not repairable!), I have a suspected hairline fracture & chipped bone near the right elbow - they can't tell for sure until the next xray in 2 weeks' time. Fingers crossed ...
