I once made the mistake of approaching someone I recognised from a band when I saw him in the theatre bar. It was possibly the most embarrassing experience of my life; he looked at me like I was shite on his shoe then turned away to talk to somebody more interesting. Never again.

Fair enough. Er, well in that case...

I think I'd prefer to go and watch them perform, read their books (whatever).

What could I possibly say that would interest such a person? It would be like me trying to ride alongside a top pro up Alpe d'Huez. I'd rather just watch them do it.
