I have British Gas combi boiler which provides hot water and heating. The boiler runs very well and responds correctly to calls for hot water or heat.

We have a BG UT2 control panel to programme the CH times. This functions perfectly.

The control panel and thermostat have a wireless connection that works. The thermostat, a BG T4 RF, is unreliable and often shows a temperature of 40 and when one manually adjusts the temperature to override the presets, will show 40. Basically it seems faulty and we have little faith in it.

Can I simply buy another wireless thermostat and expect it to connect to the control panel? Or is it necessary to purchase a control panel and thermostat? That would then involve an installer!

There's nothing on the panel or thermostat to indicate who the manufacturer was.

Which boiler do you have?

I'd highly recommend a smart thermostat such as google's Nest as it also uses outside temperature to control the heating and learns how the heating in your house works to make it more efficient.

Yes, I use Heatmiser Neostat thermostats. I wired up an old boiler, just get the correct contact rating( underfloor or central heating ) They work like Nest devices and connect to the internet, you can build up a network of room stats to control zones if you have your heating setup like that, You can get remote temp sensors to position to get a better temperature.

I replaced both my kids basic thermostats with Heatmiser Neostat V2 so they can control temps remotely and by zone

You need a hub as well for full functionality

Google Nest isn’t currently available in the UK, since they updated to the 4th gen model, and it’s not clear if it will come back. Apparently this is due to differences in USA boiler installations compared to other markets.

Other brands are, of course, available, Recently I opted for Hive for my home in Dumfries and Galloway.

Thank you. I appreciate the comments/advice on creating a heating hub but it's not really practical for me. I would have to employ someone plus the cost of thermostats etc. Add to that we live in an old cottage which cannot be adequately insulated and the return on the investment would be minimal. The other aspect is at some point in the coming twelve months I will find myself living alone. When this happens I will heat the house differently. Mrs P is a bit of a hot house girl, I'm the opposite.

@Mike_P has linked exactly what I need. A direct replacement I can install within five minutes myself.
