Has anyone got a good tip on how to keep the chain clean. No matter how much I clean it after a ride, once I have lubed it back up within a few miles it is black again.

Depending on how far you are riding, you probably don't need to be re-lubing it after every ride.

I spray the chain with GT85 and give it a wipe after every ride.

It looks clean, and runs silently for the first few miles of the next ride, longer if I'm only on road.

Loch side.
The black stuff HAS to be there. It is metal particles and it shows you that your chain lube is working. If you wax the chain, it will not turn black but the black wear particles will not be recycled through the oil and stay concentrated at the wear interface. That may be pretty, but it ain't good.
