Chainring removal

Very easy. You only really need an allen key as it will tighten up on the back without needing a flathead screwdriver or anything.

Make sure that your replacement chainring is the right BCD etc...

Ta for that. Not replacing rings. My chainguard came off and I had to get a new one. Need to take the rings off to make a good job of replacing. Ta again Will1985.
So when I actually remove the bolts, there is nothing between the 2 rings that can fall out ? Washers or the like. Chainset is FSA K-Light compact.

I cant remeber whether my FSA has shims/washers between the backnuts and chainrings...but certainly some chainsets do.

You may need a broard screwdriver when undo'ing them the first time....but after that just put some pressure on the backnut with your thumb.

There is a proper tool, but a big screwdriver will usually suffice. I always put a bit of copperslip on the screws when re-assembling (grease would do i guess)

Not sure about not having to hold the back nuts, I've had to buy/use a Park tool (screw driver wouldn't do it) to get them tight enough so they don't creak.

the chainring bolts may seize and spin rather than undo - you would then need a flat blade screwdriver to put into the slot on the rear to stop that.

also some rings are meant to be fitted in one posiiton so mark them in rekation to the crank - the outer ring has a peg that should be in line with the crank - meant to prevent chain jamming if it comes off the big ring.
