Looking at a 48 or 52t 130mm bcd (must check that tomorrow) for day one disc. Probably in the new year now but just looking for ideas of which brands are good, material steel or Ali and can a normal road ring be used. Just info at moment as I'm happy at present with 46/18 but spin out on flats so looking for something quicker soon but not so it hampers the hills
Thanks for help much appreciated

Smaller rear sprockets will give the higher gears you are looking for and will be cheaper.

What chainrings are people buying these days?

There doesn't seem to be much choice for decent money.

I've just bought a 40t raceface narrow/wide chainring for my winter bike. Quite impressed by the ring. Very well made and runs very smoothly. Now have a 1x9 transmission.
