Hi all, I've got a Carrera Subway with a worn chainset. The one on it looks to be a Shimano FC-M311 with 42/32/22T rings and 175mm crank. I'm finding it difficult to match this exactly - all the Shimanos of that model I can find have 170mm cranks. If I find one with suitable crank length then it has 48/38/28T.
Any advice on how I proceed from here would be appreciated.

The main thing to ascertain is what type of fitting you need (it's likely to be either Japanese square taper (JIS) or Octalink - if you buy the right type, you can get an extractor tool that will handle either)..
Crank length really isn't that crucial, so don't let 170mm put you off entirely.

Shimano phase-out older parts, but you'll quite likely find something here that will suit you:

You might even find replacement chainwheels for the one you have ...

The Acera is quite nice (if it's JIS fitting): http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/shimano-acera-fc-m361-crankset/aid:667940, or the Alivio if Octalink: http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/shimano-alivio-fc-t4010-crankset/aid:742195

Thanks RB. I have JIS fitting and the Acera does look nice. Do I need to remove the old one to get the axle length? or can that be done with it all assembled.
I don't do any off road stuff anymore so could go with a more teeth on the larger ring for better cruising. Sorry for the questions.
