I have Shimano 105 groupset 8 speed on my road bike.
At present I'm using 37/53 chain rings. They are beginning to show signs of wear and I am going to change them to 38/52 Stronglight rings.

Will I need to change the length of the chain? My reasoning is yes.

The present chain is nearly new and the cassette ( 12-27) is still in good condition.
Your opinions would be appreciated.

my reasoning is no.

Joe - why would you need to change your chain length?

The extreme position, requiring the chain to 'stretch' (really the mech, but you know what I mean!) furthest is big ring to big ring. With your new big ring you'll have one less tooth, so it's even less of a stretch!

Even looking at it from the other way - the 'slackest' position is small ring to small ring. Your new small ring is one tooth bigger, so the chain wont be too slack either!
