Changing Gear Cables and Shifter Problems

Hello CC,

I've just changed my front derailleur cable and now I seem to be having some problems when shifting. This problem occurs when the cable is both attached to the derailleur, and when shifting without any cable attached at all.

The problem is that if I am in the highest gear, and then shift down the gear shall drop from the 3rd position to the 1st position with no in between. If there is no pressure on the shifter (such as no cable being attached) and I know the shifter gently it shall drop a fraction of a mm into the 2nd position, and on the second tap it shall drop the rest of the way through 2nd and into 1st.

I hope that makes sense? Anyone have any suggestions.

I forgot to mention, it is fine when shifting up and they are Shimano 105 derailleurs and shifters.

Solved.... it was the stupidest thing (I mean really stupid). The positions are:

Ring 1 > Trimming > Ring 2 < Trimming < Ring 1....

For some reason I was thinking I had a third ring which was why I was trying to get it to go up and down.... I think I might need to have a rest....
