Changing Gear Selectors

Sorry if this has been asked before - I have searched to no avail.

Both kids bikes have got twist type gear shifters which they are struggling with. I am considering changing them to lever ones - has anyone done this and if so did you have any problems.

You might struggle getting the old shifers off...i found the screws that mount the gripshifts to the handlebars were a swine to undo (phillips head IIRC)

If you get cable inners with the new shifters, no problem, but i'm wondering if you use the old inners, whether they'll be long enough. Probably will, but i never take anything for granted.

Otherwise, its quite do-able.

As said, the Philips head screws can be a right pita if the grip shifts are old besides that you'll need new bar grips & personally for the sake of £20 I'd get a new cable set.

Thanks for the tips, They are both reasonably new but I shall do some exploratory loosening before I buy any new ones to be on the safe side.

If in half reasonable condition you should be able to get a few bob for the gripshifts on eBay.
