I'm in the usual quandary of looking to get a steel-disc-road/cx-winter bike, that can take guards+rack. I was thinking of converting an old MTB, but Wiggle are selling the Charge Filter Apex 2012 for almost 1/2 price (£650) - which is very temping. Although I would have to find (or make) room for n+1 
Anyone have experience of this?
My only issue is that I would have preferred a compact chainset - as I usually have the North Downs to negotiate, and it's not the lightest of bikes - but I can change this for around £60 and ebay the standard one.
There's also the Charge Filter Hi. Lower spec, and nasty brown saddle/tape, but compact chainset. Although this is £750, so £100 more.
