wheelchairs and mobility scooters are more common forms of transport than e-bikes for those people, don't you think?

If they can afford an e-bike, they can afford the payment.

I've no idea why people on e-bikes are expected to pay double that of those riding regular bikes to partake in a charity ride... but the assumption from some that those on e-bikes will be elderly or disabled is doubly baffling.

A number of quite silly, gatekeeping, and borderline ableist posts on this thread. It may surprise you to learn that disabilities and infirmities come in many forms and levels of severity. It's not a binary disabled/able-bodied situation.

They may be quite able to sit on and push the pedals of a bike or trike but leg strength, joint pain, deformities etc make it difficult or impossible for them to ride a non-electric bike any distance. If they can ride an electric assist bike and that enables them to get about why shouldn't they? Why should they resign themselves to a mobility scooter?

Wheelchairs and mobility scooters are not cheap either. They can cost the same or more than ebikes.
