I'm wondering where you see the chance in chess. It's a fixed start position for both sides.

Chess has almost no chance factors, it is fixed board and controlled environment, with no moving parts.
A sport like cricket has far more chance factors than chess, with the weather, a lucky bounce, or a poor decision influencing the outcome.

It's obviously just down to chance. Everybody I have ever played has just been extremely lucky.
