can anyone tell me for a set of giro handle bars 26 mm centre should I buy a 26 mm stem or a 26.4 stem to get it around and on

0.4 mm probably isn't enough to worry about - if it isn't sufficiently tight there should be room for a small shim to pack it out.

You should buy a stem with the same diameter as the handlebars.
26.4mm stems are designed for 26.4mm handlebars, not to give an 'easy' fit on 26.0mm ones.
Using a 26.4 stem with 26.0 handlebars is a recipe for annoying handlebar slippage and over-tightening the stem clamp to try and compensate. (DAMHIKT)

thanks , the 26.4 stem I have does slip unless its tightened right up even then I'm not convinced , 26 mm it is
