Class act from Elton John!

A wonderful act here from Elton John. Wilko Johnson presented Sir Elton with an award at the prestigious GQ awards but Elton John handed it straight back to the man who truly deserved the honour telling him 'you're the f**king genius here'. I filled up when I read that.

I saw Wilko on Bank Holiday Monday play in front of a tremendously appreciative crowd and just a couple of hours earlier, we sat on the next table to him and Norman Watt-Roy in our local restaurant. A truly wonderful day.

Wilko Johnson was extraordinary. I saw him (having never heard of him) at Reading in '78 or '79.

He had a strange energy that seemed to be from some other planet.

Canvey Island... Strange place. Strange people.

I don't get too sad about the passing of famous people, but I got a lump in my throat when I heard he was terminally ill.

But what a wonderful, happy musical legacy.
