Every time I see a photo like this, it reminds me of the time before VOSA were a thing and seeing these Scanias being driven flat out by the Iads down the A55. There was always some sort of rumour of pulled limiters/coach diffs/tacho switches, but they couldn't half shift. I'd be on the end of the tacho in a 7.5 tonne van to catch them up and get past.

I have it on good authority that the first Volvo F16 Globetrotters were capable of in excess of 90mph, up Windy Hill (M62) at 44 Tonnes GVW

I remember getting a passenger ride in a Daf 95. One of the HGV fitters said he'd smoked a car off in them lights in it, and I didn't believe him. Jesus, that thing could shift. They also had a Sudden Accident 401 with a Rolls motor that sounded phenomenal and accelerated like a scalded cat.

Back in the 80's/early 90's, Phil Llewellyn, the renown motoring journalist, wrote a travelogue most months for Truck magazine, & spent a fair amount of time in Kenworths/Peterbilts/White/etc.... that were geared to cruise, loaded, at 90-100MPH

Debating whether to go to TruckFest - Lincoln this Sunday, as the ticket prices have gone up
(I'm sure Newark-on-Trent) was £20 last October

£30 'on the gate' this year!

Not going now, as there's a few things that need doing instead
