I've bought a pair of SPD-SL pedals and am now looking for my first ever pair of shoes to ride them. The problem is there is so much conflicting information and there seems to be no standard sizing rule between manufacturers - I take a size 10 trainers (44-44.5 euro), can anyone help with a general guide to buying shoes that will fit?

IIRC, it's best to buy a size bigger in Shimano

Sizing cycling shoes is not easy and seems to have only a passing relationship to normal shoe sizes. All 3 of my cycle shoes are different sizes; 44,45 and 46 but I wear 44 in normal shoes. The fit was quite different and it took me some time to find a wide fitting road shoe.

My conclusion - do not do mail order unless you have confirmed the size by trying on the shoes beforehand. Try a wide range of different makes.
