I'm stumped on this one...booted up the computer one day and saw that the clock was telling the wrong time..No matter what I enter - once I start it up again it's always very wrong in time. It's supposed to be synched up to GMT.

Does anyone know what the hell is wrong with it - currently, it's telling me that it's 7:58 in the morning!

Windows XP, old as anything computer!

My old mac does the same thing, everytime I switch it on it tells me the date is set to 1970! (off topic, but does anyone know why the default date is 28 years before the computer was built?)

Anyway, I've been reliably informed that the issue is a flat battery somewhere on the motherboard... Maybe yours has the same problem?

oh cack.........it will have to stay that way then if that is the problem.

1970? Fantastic...an elderley laptop- if only Macs/PCs had a working life that long!

New CMOS battery should fix it.

If it isn't that check if the clock is set to update from an online time server. You can turn that option on and off and see if its messing your machine up.

Any ideas of the cost of the battery?

Can't really justify the expenditure whatever it is unless it's less than £3

It's not auto update to any internet settings
