Well finally pick new road bike up this weekend and carnt wait to get out on it, so can any one help with whats the best clothing to get had a look in a few shops and sites but the choice is endless

If you want the top end road bike clothing you can't get better than Assos. It's very expensive but very good quality.

Gore or Endura are good makes and more sensibly priced.

Had been looking at the endura range as that's what I bought in the mounting bike range, what would be the best starting point of clothing to get as in shorts etc

It's summer so bib shorts, sleeveless vest, short sleeved jersey, socks, cap, gloves & shoes + helmet if you wear one. Then things like arm warmers, leg warmers, long sleeve jersey etc etc etc.....

I no longer ride on the road but when I did I favoured Gore kit. Their lycra shorts are comfy and wear well. The Gore phantom jacket is a good all rounder, it's windproof with detachable sleeves for warmer weather. Like mtb kit you'll find you'll build it up as you go along but roadie stuff is a tighter fit.

I've found the altura range pretty good quality and value. I've always been pleased with the santini stuff from prendas, you can get some great bargains there to. Planet-x have a load of jerseys in at under a tenner, good quality too so I've heard. Then there is aldi, surprisingly good.

I posted this elsewhere for someone else, clothing required, roughly in this order of importance:

1. Shorts/longs X2 with chamois insert. Adds to your comfort hugely. You need two if you end up going out a lot because you shouldn't wear them more than once without washing them, even on short trips.
2. Mitts - likewise. Cushions your hands on the bike, has towelling to wipe the sweaty brow/nose and protects your hands if you fall.
3. Shades. They're not to look cool, they're eye protection. Nothing worse than a bug hitting your eye when you're hurtling downhill at 30mph. Also stops your eyes tearing up on downhills. Also look cool.
4. Shoes. SPD types for clipless pedals. Stiff soles make for better pedalling. Normal trainers are too soft and your feet will likely chaff/hurt. SPD pedals have probably been the best invention for the bike in the last 3-40 years.
5. Wind or waterproof top. With back pockets.
6. Normal cycling top, with back pockets for the sunny days.

edit: oh - forgot. Helmet if you wish, though the choice of wearing one is yours.

Brand wise - again, the choice is yours. Depends what feels right and fits properly.

Bacteria down there in yer nether regions can get rubbed under your skin, causing saddle sores - so you need to keep the chamois in the shorts scrupulously clean. Meaning that its generally recommended that you should only wear them once before washing them.
