my daughter is now the cycle commuter in our house, and as such has the rack on her bike.

she's gone out for the first commute today to her high school, hope she comes back in one piece…

I tend to say this a lot on here whenever I hear some worry, but have a look for the free cycling training in your area and book some up for her. I'd been cycling a little while around London when I took my training and it really helped my confidence and my how I cycle.

I think this helped to ease the worry others were feeling about me being a new cyclist in London too.

it's a d-lock, so should be ok, unless a would-be thief has time and motivation.

it's a girls' halfords bso anyway (albeit with proper brakes fitted), so hardly a prize catch for anyone else…

Saw a kid at school today with proper good lights on their bike: Cateye EL530 and TL1100 on the back. (Not necessarily what I would choose but certainly not skimping on the lights for their child's bike).

Don't let her use that as an excuse - tie a bin/box to the rack and keep contents secure with a cargo net .
