Not that there is anything wrong with the best bike, in fact all is well with it. It's just that I got a call at midday from the chap that looks after the office building to tell me I had an hour to get my bike out of the shed before it was going to be closed to all access for an indefinite period regardless of whether people had left bikes or cars in it.

The wind had blown part of the roof over the bike racks down and is was unsafe. I had to wear a hard hat to collect my bike.

Now, until it gets repaired and made safe I have to find somewhere on-street to park the steed. Not a place to put a pride and joy, so No. 4 has been prepared for the duty.

I spent years riding old second hand and cobbled together from bits bikes, for commuting and general running about bikes they are ideal, you can leave them anywhere you like without worrying about them, and if they get scratched, damaged or nicked its not as much of a disaster as it would be if it was a decent bike. The problem with my Pearson I use for commuting, general running about and winter riding is that its a little too nice.

Got given an old CB Vuelta 7spd down tube shifters... Used some spare bits to fix it up. Riding it to work everyday. Much heavier than my best bike but strangely enjoyable!

Been commuting on something of a hack: an 1970's 3-speed, because I couldnt get secure parking when I switched jobs 3 months ago. It doesnt look much but its actually quite a utilitarian bike!

That said I do miss my sirrus elite, which at the end of the day was more a more comfotrable and faster.
