When do you intend to stop travelling to work by bike? 50's? Early ;60s?

How about this man for inspiration - still travels to work on his bicycle even though he is 77:

OK, in other ways he maybe isn't the best role model, but at least he is still on his bike....

 LOL.

I plan to keep going (in one form or another) as long as the legs will allow me.

One of my relatives is in his late 60's and rides just as far as me each week, so the genes look to be in my favour!!

Last year I had the pleasure of a guy's company whilst cycling home one evening, he was 64 & due to retire. In the previous 12 months he'd only missed cycling to work 1 day. He lives in Hornsea & worked on Hull docks, about 16 miles each way. A real inspiration

50's ? 'Later life'? LATER LIFE !!! That's only about half way round the course. I'll stop travelling to work by bike when I stop work. Then I'll cycle to somewhere else - most likely a nice little cafe or pub, while you'll still be working your arse off to help pay my pension. HaHaHaHaHa.

Impident young wippersnapper.

It says a lot about your thoughts for your fellow man when you can still see good in a guy who has been in prison 26 times and has 70 previous convictions.:bicycle::biggrin:

One of my Scottish relatives cycled to work until he retired and carried on cycling for pleasure for another 20 years after that.

He only gave up cycling when his doctor advised him to after he'd ridden into a ditch for the second time in a couple of months due to his sense of balance failing. I'd have advised him to switch to riding a tricycle instead! ;)

My mother in law siad she admired me sticking at it, why I dotn know, I like it, she couldnt understand it and said well you keep it up whilst you still can (assume she was still on cycling when she made that comment ), im 38 ffs !!

The chap next door to us retired several years ago, commuted every day, still rides and must be seventy, I think if you cycle, unless you get a bad case of HGVistis or other injury the fitness allows you to do more in later life, so perhaps the sixty and seventy year old people who think they are "old" and behave as such by becoming knackered just assume that you are as decripit as them, they couldnt start now so cant understand someone as old as them still doing it.

I seem to have inspired my dad, he is 62 now but has been doing his short commute to work on my brothers MTB , serves him right for moving out and leaving it there.

I guess you just do what you can do, I love it, 18 months in I cant see myself going back to a car led life, some days it isnt much fun but like last nigth I got home buzzing, 9 mile ride and a miles swim at the local leisure centre, same this morning, cant see me wanting to stop.

Simples. When I stop work. Why else?
Me too. Hope that ain't when I'm in my 70s though!!

My father in law still rides to the local town quite regularly: 7 miles or so each way. He's 72. Him and my mother in law also walk 10 miles or more 3-4 times a week. And led the way up Cadair Idris when we went to Snowdonia last year. And have just come back from two weeks camping and walking in Scotland.

I want to be like them when I'm their age, not like my dad ... who didn't even make it to their age.
