I appreciate this has been discussed before and is difficult to answer but alas I will post anyway

I was knocked off my bike at a pelican crossing, the driver has admitted running a red light. My injuries were/are:

20 stitches in my right ear.
Bruising to my head (I was wearing a helmet!)
Concussion still on going, now for 5 days.
Bruising to my shoulder
Bruising to my leg

I have also had a quote from my local bike shop for damage to the bike, it is a complete write off and they value the bike and wheels at £1300.

I look forward to some enlightenment

Do you have any other financial losses such as clothing damage or loss of earnings.

I would have thought you should be looking at a 4 figure sum for your suffering but I would use a solicitor if it were me.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Join the CTC/british cycling and contact their solicitors , best money you will spend imho on a bike accessory and let them deal with the driver.
Keep documentation on everything , cost of bike, lost earnings, physio, travel etc etc
Photographic record of your injuries, and keep note of any injuries that are not immediatly apparant but appear at a later date .

I have a solicitor dealing with it all for me.

Other costs are, helmet, cost of having the insurance quote done by the bike shop.

I have had a week off work which I think i get paid for, perhaps not though.

Sounds painful. Glad you're OK.

I notice so many drivers RLJing now it's pathetic. Hopefully this guy will never do it again.

For enlightenment, I'd try Buddhism.
Are you asking for our best guesses at what you might be offered for your injuries and pain & suffering? The figures that we would accept?

As User states, K&K is the authority on quantum of damages in P.I. Cases.

You have a solicitor; if you don't think he or she is advising you properly, instruct another.

You are being impatient. Took 3.5 years for my settlement, and TBH would rather have not gone through it at all, just not worth 3.5 years of pain.

Cuts and bruised maybe 1500. You can't settle until you are sure of your injuries, as things like a borked shoulder can take time to appear. I didn't notice my shoulder wasn't right for a couple of weeks. Oh it will get better, didn't and ended up with an operation 2 years later, and took over 12 months to feel right after being fixed. So settling early would have been stupid.

Wait and see. Most importAntly, you should push for an interim payment once liability is admitted for the replacement equipment. If liability isn't admitted, expect a long delay.

Just curious. How were you knocked over at a pelican crossing? Were you walking the bike across?

Hi there

I got knocked off my bike just under 5 years ago. They admitted, eventually, 85% liability. At the side of the road they admitted full liability but they changed their story later.

I was riding up to the ASL in the filter lane and the passenger opened the door on me. I got bruises and cuts and a displaced fracture in my little finger.

It doesn't sound like much but I am a secretary for a living and my main hobby is playing piano.

I had to have surgery - twice - once to have screws inserted into the fracture and once to have them removed a year later as they had been left slightly too long and they were agony for that year.

I have got scarring and my finger is bent out of shape permanently and is numb and tingly, at the same time, still.

I got my loss of earnings back which amounted to about £1,500 (but bear in mind I lost that out of my pocket). I also got the repair costs for my bike and expenses for having to go around sourcing new forks etc.

For the injury and pain and suffering I got about £3,600.00. It sounds like a lot but it took over 3 years to get it and a lot of battling with the other side.

I didn't think that was a lot for two lots of surgery and stiches and my grip in my left hand has been reduced by 60% so when I wash up etc I drop things a lot!

However, that's the way PI claims are now. I got a cheque for about £6,000 in end but as I say with the bike repairs etc and the loss of earnings I was out of pocket for those three years.

I went out and blew the lot on a baby grand piano which I do enjoy playing but my playing is nowhere near as good as it was so I don't get as much enjoyment out of it as you would think!

Hope this helps! ... but it's much better to not get injured in the first place!!!
