Hey peeps !!

I am a typical student wanting to take my bike to uni for convenience reasons, so im planning on bring my old teenage time bike with me since i dont wonna get a brand new one to use for 1 year.

Therefore, I want to at least change the tyres of the bike at least so its easier on the road, since i've had it since I bought the bike 3000years ago (cant remember when I bought it :S). Can somebody advice me what kinda tyres I should be purchasing for the bike's frame? (Technical details are welcomed since I will just copy and paste it into Google and order tyres with compatible specs online). I also know that this might be a proper dumb question to be asking, but I can't possible get bigger tyres than the original one right due to the compatibility of the frame ?

This is my bike - Bikes 2U Direct -- Mountain bikes : Full suspension -- Raleigh Vulture bike -- technical specifications

Thanks so much !!

Hi Bobby

Great idea to use your old bike if it still fits you - watch out if your knees get painful, it may be too small for you and you might be able to raise the saddle.

I'm no expert on mountain bikes but I'm sure someone will be along in a minute who is. I guess you will be riding in a town...? In which case you don't want to go too knobbly or thick for tyres as it will slow you down. Even if part of your commute is off-road you don't need the full MTB spec.

If you want to update this monster then I suggest some slick tyres for on road use. Something like Schwalbe City Jets, sorry my connection here is slow right now otherwise I would have posted a link. About twelve quid each.

I do agree it's a monster, but if you've been riding it as a kid, then you know what to expect (ie heavy bouncy hellaciousness) and the general bomb-proofery and undesirability of the thing should see it through the year.

I wouldn't spend a penny on a granite hewn behemoth like that, but if you must then City Jets in 1.5 width will make the best of an extremely bad job.

Also he could probably finish using the bike and take the City Jets off it and put them on a better bike at the end of the year!

Thanks guys for the suggestions, my friend just suggested this to be but would a tyre like this be good for my bike ? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Schwalbe-Cru...nch+bike+tyres , I will be biking off road most of the time so I guess this isnt THAT knobby ? hehe....Also I will be buying the tubes along with this tyre depending on answers on whether this tyre is compatible or not !! Shall I order this along with this tyre ? Which is - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Coyote-2-125..._bxgy_sg_img_y ,or is it not good enough ?

Again, thanks for your time guys !

Seems to me if you're seriously off-road those tyre would be fine but will slow you down on the road. But hey, you're young, no harm in grinding along at your age!
