always mention section 59 police reform act (asbo for vehicles)
Thank you for that! On the few occasions when I have made a complaint, they have said there isn't much they can do unless there was an actual contact. I will try mentioning this next time.

Now I want to report him to the local constabulary, but there's only an 0845 number, and I aren't paying money to report a bad driver...
For what it's worth, 0845 numbers are always a local call rate, so for most people will cost no different to the local STD code, but a free number would be better I suppose.

It's mounted on my front reflector bracket. I don't wear a helmet and as such, have nothing other than stem, handlebars or that to mount it on... I will be getting a rear camera to mount on my panniers soonish.

I doubt that I'd have had enough swing to safely mount the kerb, if I had there wouldn't be a problem

I can understand that, a few years back I got stuck between the curb/kerb and an 18-wheeler. Not a fun place to be. If I'd stopped I'd probably would have been sucked under his wheels. If I had attempted to hop the curb/kerb I probably still would have ended up going under his wheels. So I did the only thing that I could do. I kept pedaling and hoped that he didn't make a right turn, which fortunately he didn't.

IF I'm following what y'all are trying to say. Over there, there is an extra charge for calling the police/bobbies when you are out of your home area? I'm glad that it doesn't work that way here. 911 when dialed will connect one to the emergency call center (at no extra charge) for wherever they are. Also over here it is my understanding that ALL cell phone whether active or not have to be able to call 911. Which is why a lot of women's shelters ask people to donate their old unused phones.

its the non emergency number... due to cost savings and supposedly to make it simpler, some areas now have a single number for a larger region rather than a number of different local numbers for the local police station..

eg, i'm in greater manchester, a long time ago, i would have been able to ring the local station with a local number , but now , you have a single 0845 for ALL greater manchester ( about 10 towns and manchester itself),, the theory being that i can remember one number, it covers me for a number of local towns....( though not the same one for if i'm somewhere further away, ie not manchester!)
it also tallies that they use a single access point to rerout the calls anyway, so sometimes even if you ring the old local number, you'd still get the same single operator..

whats annoying is that normal numbers are 'free' for a lot of people ( via mobile contracts OR landlines with bundles) but stuff like 0845 cost money ,, booo!!
theres been talk of using a single access number as well, say 333 ( instead of 999) for non-emergency, but this seems never to have happened, which is rubbish tbh..

Thank you for explaining it. It does sound as if it isn't a very efficient system. Over here our 911 system covers all of Pinellas County, but each town has it's own non-emergency number. And like most of y'all I've also got the non-emergency number of St. Pete programed into my cell/mobile. Given that occasionally I do ride outside of St. Pete I should probably program those numbers in as well.

It's way more than not free. 0845 number raise revenue for the holder: police should not be using the public reporting problems to raise money and from my mobile phone company (o2) it cost more than 20p/minute to call. That's certainly more than enough to make me put off making the call until I got home, and probably to forget to do it.

And lots of kids don't have landlines any more (ours is only used once per month) so wouldn't have a way of avoiding the steep charge.

Oh, and o2 also charge the same for "free" number.

Not when you only have a mobile (T-Mobile, 0845 numbers aren't counted in my minutes) and a Virgin phone (25p/minute for 084x/087x numbers I believe)

Agreed, in a more perfect world any call to the police be it to the 911 (or whatever it is) or the non-emergency number should be free. Whether it's made from a landline, or a cell/mobile phone.

And neither the police or the phone company should be making money off of any call to the police. As we know there are times when we have a police emergency that isn't a life or death we need the police this second. But it is still an emergency that is better handled by the non-emergency number. And those calls should be free just as the main emergency number is a free call.
