Washing machines have a design fault.

When it stops draining, due to fault or blocked filter, the drain point is at floor level, or under the machine, so you have to pick up the machine complete will a full load of water and laundery before it can properly drain without flooding the room.

I was balancing a full washing machine on two dining chairs so that I could drain the dirty water out from underneath. Lovely job, with soapy, smelly water running down my arms and splashing on the floor!
