Riding into Droitwich last night enjoying the view, rode under some conker trees that were hanging over the road. An exquisitely timed run over the branches by a squirrel left me under a shower of the things.

Must have been amusing for the following cars.

Possibly one more for the pro-helmet lobby (no i wasn't wearing one, and yes they did hurt).

You mean the conkers should have been wearing helmets...?

There are loads of chestnut trees in my estate, and the main exit onto the road is covered in them. Makes it a bit precarious going out/coming in as I'm braking, turning and checking for traffic at the same time. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until I have a low speed off from my front wheel sliding on a beautiful championship winning conker.

If there are any Arachnophobes out there, put some conkers in the corner of rooms to prevent spiders coming in.

Hmmm...I may go and get some conkers tomorrow...For some reason we've sudenly started getting really icky large spiders in the living room recently

Great to shoot out from under your wheels, or from raceblades if they get stuck. Can really get some speed going with a well aimed ping!

Round here the ground under horse chestnut trees is littered with half bricks, logs, and chunks of tree where the kids have been knocking the conkers down before they fall... it's like Beirut!

Don't kids round your way still play conkers?

You've got to watch squirrels in horse chestnut trees. A few years ago, whilst cycling along a country lane, I spotted a squirrel scampering along a branch overhanging the road. The little bugger then dropped a conker right on my head as I cycled underneath.

And yes, I was wearing a helmet.

This is a worrying trend... squirrels clearly have an agenda and are planning something. We were at Centre Parcs a few years ago where my daughter's friend asked why the squirrels had conversation areas all over the forest... We checked to find there were indeed such places for them to meet up with their chums and plot the next raids....

You'll see them too but they disguise them as... Squirrel Conservation Areas.
