Well it is some time since I have been on here, and have not done that much cycling (none!) of late. I have a mongoose 450 crossway that is fine on the smooth road. However I don't like riding it through through potholes, gravel and the odd mud path. I don't enjoy it as much as the giant hard rock it replaced (which was years old but regret getting rid of it) but equally it is probably faster on my trip to work which is 7 miles of which probably 80% is on the A246 a busy 50mph road with a rough surface. Being grey and boring isn't a good enough reason for changing

anyway the sun's out and I thought this year I really should get back into cycling to work. So I had a little trip out rather unnecessarily to look at bikes. A 29er was suggested to me I had a teeny ride and rather like it, (Merida TFS 100-D), I have also had a look on the net and rather like (in looks anyway!) the canondale trail sl 29er. Could someone with a bit more knowledge let me know whether a 29er would be a suitable purchase for me and if so I am interested in any recommendations. Or is it just a case that I should just put up with what I have and get going again.

Thank you

PS I am 5ft 11
