Though, would the chalk make my tyres more less grippy? I like the idea, other than there would only be ONE chalk line on my commute

Hmm. Depositing large amounts of chalky material onto the roads. Hmmm. I wonder if there are any safety implications in this, i.e. making the road a little slipper perhaps.... hmmmm

Climbers use chalk for extra grip on rock, so I doubt it would make any difference.

Problem in the UK is our almnost daily rain. The trail would never last
