See also ffmpeg which converts pretty much anything to pretty much anything else. Although it's true what albion said: converting from one lossy format (I think WMA is usually lossy) to another will not give you the best sound quality.

Assuming from you mentioning iPod that she has iTunes on the go. It has a convert to mp3 option in the menu that does exactly that. You can select multiple files and then just leave it to tick through them.

For some reason that's greyed out. Not sure why because I'm sure it used to work no bother.

@Dan B, I've had limited success with ffmpeg. I get good results with video but never audio.
