I have heard that the EU are making car manufacturers fit special film to the inside of all new car windows in order to make cars cooler inside and therefore, in theory, causing the drivers to turn down the air conditioning and hence waste less petrol.
A "problem" was found with the film, apparently it cuts off all mobile phone signals, meaning no-one in the car will be able to connect their phone to the mobile phone networks.
Unfortunately the car manufacturers are looking into to installing devices in the car to bypass this problem.

Can't help feeling there are more practical ways of saving fuel! Like getting rid of gas-guzzling monsters. I speak with smugness having just replaced my 1.6 Civic with a smaller Yaris, which in theory means I should get 12-15 more mpg. It does have bluetooth but I don't see any film.

I guess you wouldn't like my car. 1.3 litre which does 20 to the gallon.
Most cars now come with bluetooth as standard, which connects to an installed aerial. I think ours is on one of the rear quarter lights.
My source was a bit vague but Merc/BMW and the like are looking at putting in 3G/4G repeaters so mobile phone service is no affected

It actually might not be a bad idea. The number of 'very expensive' cars and the drivers still have the phone to their ear !

What film is showing this week
If i were driving this week and had a film showing, i would go for a retro "Uncle Buck" or Aliens 2. saying this i would have thought watching a film whilst driving may be a tad dangerous, especialy holding popcorn and a drink as well, but then again i could get the knees to do the steering.
