I recently bought a new laptop. A few years ago I bought Corel WinDVD which is on my old laptop and I want to have it on my new one. I don't have a CD and I can't remember how I installed it (possibly downloaded it from the website). Is it possible and is it legal to get it transferred to my new computer simply by cutting and pasting the files from Documents and Settings? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only way would be to create a portable version of it. It's quite complex if you don't know how though.

Copy/pasting won't work as it'll have put entires in the registry. Also if your indifferent operating systems the library files (and even the exe files most likely) will likely be the wrong versions.

I would just stick with Windows Media Player. Why do you need WinDVD? Features or simply because you paid for it?

Copying it the way you suggest won't work. If you have your registration key then Google for the version you have and download. It should throw up lots of places, some very dodgy, some less so, that will allow you to download the original software. You can then install and re-register it using your original key. Otherwise it looks like the latest version is only £25 if you like it that much.
