After a lot of discussions we have decided to travel from Denmark to Cornwall next week to try our hand as Helpx volunteers. We will be taking 2 light touring bikes on the back of the car and will be stopping in Germany and France. We will have all our light touring gear with us including tent and would like some suggestions of rides in Cornwall. We will be based in Millbrook for the first week and the week after we are free to ride all week.

We usually cover 70 - 100 km a day.

Don't do it.
Never having been to Cornwall or Devon before I decided one summer to take the train to Penzance and cycle tour there. After 24 hours I realised this place with its hills was not for me and set course directly for Bristol but then carried on towards home. After a night at home I set off for John O' Groats getting there the next day, and that's how I did my LEJOG, an intended tour of Cornwall and Devon:rolleyes:.

There are some excellent routes around here, often with small ferries, although the A38 does cut a great swathe across the area

Just choose coastal roads and explore.

Rame Head is a spectacular area, and the delights of the Cremyll Ferry will take you to Plymouth and on to Dartmoor, as well as the train service if you wish to leave the car and travel further afield

This is a useful link

Yup, avoid the A38 and A30, and pretty much the rest is fun, especially if you don't mind short sharp hills. The ride round the south-western tip is glorious.

I could never imagine a hill beating us. Its always slow and easy with plenty of stops if we need them.

Now Stelvio, that is a hill. But there are nice restaurants and cafes at the top so it keeps you going.

I am sure we will have a great time. I will post photos when we get back. We will go and find the steepest hill we can find so you can see if a pair of oldies like us can do it so can everyone else.

I've never met a hill I can't walk up so I always have my 24" gear with me:thumbsup:
