Cough! cough!

On Saturday I tried to do a "very bad thing".

I wanted to buy a bottle of Benyllin Nighttime chesty cough formula, to ease my chesty cough at night, and a bottle of Benyllin non-drowsy chest cough formula to take to ease my chesty cough during the day. On GP's advice pending an appointment for a chest x-ray as the cough has gone on since mid-November.

But no. The lovely lady in Boots consulted the pharmacist and "computer says no". Such a purchasing strategy is not allowed and thus I had to go to two chemists and conduct two separate transactions before I could guzzle the nectar and get on with my weekend.

Ho hum. In combination do the two make folk spontaneously combust? Could taking both cause me to run amok like some latter day Mr Hyde? Do the staff in Boots Haverfordwest have a bizarre "don't sell to the English!" policy. Or has the sale of non-prescription medicines gone every so slightly strange in recent years.

Paracetamol AND Ibuprofen sir? GOOD GRIEF NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Try going to buy any medicine for kids these days. They'll give you the third degree over how old the child is, I tend to just lie and add a few years on to be safe.
It's like the limit on paracetamol purchases to stop OD'ing. What does that solve? If I really want to overdoes on paracetamol I'll just go to a few shops in town and buy as many as I need.

A mate of mine did exactly that. He wondered round Sheffield city centre and bought boxes of the things planning on taking an overdose. Thankfully he bottled the attempt after a few tablets and called for help so didn't succeed.

Apparently, if you want to kill yourself with paracetamol (a horrible way to go but each to their own), you shouldn't take lots of pills at once, but a few at regular intervals to cause irreparable liver damage. This is why the drug shouldn't be taken more often than every 4 hours and no more than 4g in 24 hours

Nurse advised me today not to take co codamol and tramadol together, they aren't happy bedfellows. Codeine and paracetamol ok, tramadol and paracetamol ok...tramadol and codeine, no

I'd rather space my pain relief out for better coverage

It's a lovely feeling telling lies to the lady on the till. I put it on my face!

I've had tramadol before. I find it less ahem constipating than codeine. Both make me pretty drowsy so only at night. Tramadol for when need more relief and have had too much paracetamol / too recently. Taking naproxen too for the dodgy knee and now for further post accident ails

I'm sure you know, but hydrocortisone is very strong, so dilute with E45 or aquious cream when the skin starts to calm down :-)

Tramadol gave me such vivid dreams that I looked forward to going to sleep. Much cheaper and more entertaining than going to the pictures.

When I did my back in, an aunt, an a&e nurse, said they always recommend a combination of paracetamol & ibuprofen. Did the trick. (No good for a chesty cough, though. Bottle & a half of a good single malt for that. You still cough, but you just don't give a shoot.)

No, don't think it ever was, you can get low dose of codeine though in solpadeine

Oh heck. I feel for you.

I have a few left over codeine 30 mg from my op that I just take one when needed at night, but if not at the right time, I get tummy rumbles with it, really bad. I end up on the settee. The tramadol I had to stop as it sent me off my head.

I manage now on nothing or at bed time when it's ibuprofen or paracetamol, and maybe codeine at prescription strength. Forgot to add red wine works best.....

I will go back to the doc shortly for more codeine. I have found buying co-codamol at half the strength impossible at my local lloyds. I buy it to have in stock when my boy bits go nuclear. They ask you why and I just say post surgery pain... I await till they ask me what ! Yup had one of my boy bits removed, bits chopped off and shoved back in.
